Mumbai: At 22, Diza Saxena has chosen to step away from the corporate world and pursue her long-standing passion for Hindustani music. After graduating from the London School of Economics and beginning her corporate career in Spain, Saxena decided to chart a different path, turning her focus towards music.
Saxena has undergone eight years of classical music training, which has provided the foundation for her evolving musical identity. Her recent Mumbai presentation, Baitho Na, brought together semi-classical music, ghazals, Urdu poetry and contemporary sounds, creating a format that combined the depth of tradition with a modern sensibility.
Her repertoire included popular classics such as Lag Ja Gale and In Aankhon Ki Masti, along with a tribute to legendary ghazal singer Jagjit Singh and a rendition of Chhap Tilak.
Having lived in five countries and travelled to more than 50, Saxena has also performed in intimate musical gatherings in Dubai before taking her music to Mumbai’s stages. She now hopes to build a distinctive identity in Indian music by presenting its rich heritage in a contemporary voice.
